the brooks building

The Merchants National Bank or Brooks Building is a commercial building in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States, built and opened in 1892 as a financial center in St. Paul's Lowertown neighborhood at the corner of Jackson Street and Fifth Street. The structure, designed by Edward Bassford, uses sandstone in a Richardsonian Romanesque style.  The ground floor was occupied by an influential bank, while the upper stories provided law offices. Several office tenants went on to great state or national prominence, including Cushman Kellogg Davis, Cordenio Severance, Frank B. Kellogg, Pierce Butler, and William D. Mitchell.  For many years, the building was known as the McColl Building. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The four-story structure was carefully rehabilitated and restored by David A. Brooks, and the building now carries his family name.

Behind the Brooks Building is the Galtier Sibley Tower.  It was completed in 1988. It is 340 feet tall and has 33 floors. It was originally constructed as an apartment highrise. It was converted to owner occupied condominiums in early 2003.  Info coutesy of Phorio website.

The Smith Avenue High Bridge or the High Bridge is an inverted arch bridge that carries Minnesota State Highway 149 and Smith Avenue over the Mississippi River in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. It was built and opened in 1987 at a cost of $20 million. The bridge carries two lanes of street traffic over the river and is the highest bridge in St. Paul, with a deck height of 160 ft (49 m) and a clearance below of 149 ft (45 m).  Info courtesy of Wikipedia

St. Paul's historic Landmark Center, completed in 1902, originally served as the United States Post Office, Courthouse, and Custom House for the state of Minnesota. It was designed by Willoughby J. Edbrooke, who served as Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury Department in 1891–92. Edbrooke designed a body of public architecture, much of which, like this structure, was completed after his 1896 death.
