leap froggers

Church Street Marketplace
Burlington, VT

Church Street Marketplace
1986, copper

Commissioned by the Church Street Marketplace Business Association, this whimsical piece exemplifies the subjective nature of public art – some love it, some don’t. In June of 2002, vandals stole most of the statue, leaving behind only two feet. The Marketplace and concerned residents raised money over the course of the summer, rescued the missing figures and restored the Leap Froggers to their original stature.

Photo taken: Sept 2009.

A 128-year-old fountain nicknamed "The Ladies" returned to its former glory after a major restoration project.  The fountain was erected in 1887 and cost $4,000. It was a gift to St. Albans from John Gregory Smith.  The fountain was cast and built by the J.W. Fisk company in New York City. The original molds were bought by Robinson Iron Alabama.

the old train depot site

The town has been a crossing point for vital water, road and rail routes for two centuries. Atop the depot's cupola, a weathervane features a small engine and tender steaming into the wind.
